Praying Mantis
Ease of care: Beginner
Praying Mantises tend to change in colour depending on their environment but most commonly are various shades of brown. In their natural habitat, an arboreal species, they live in tree canopies, shrubs and bushes. In captivity, provide trees and plants in their enclosure. A Praying Mantis can camouflage; the Ghost Mantis (Phyllocrania paradoxa) is aptly named due to its ability to blend into its surroundings and become almost invisible to their predators. They also have a distinct leaf-like growth on its head providing camouflage, whereas other similar species lack, just having bodies resembling a leaf.
