The animal that's right for you

Whether you are a beginner or already own a reptile, here is a simple guide to helping you find the right reptile for you.

Pink Toe Tarantula

Ease of care: Beginner

The Pink Toe Tarantula (Avicularia avicularia) is also known as the ‘common pink toe’ Tarantula. In their natural habitat, an arboreal species they live in tree canopies, shrubs and bushes. Make sure to provide trees and plants in their enclosure in captivity. The young and juvenile species have different colouration, with pinkish bodies and dark coloured feet. As the Tarantula grows it changes to a darker body with pink feet. Caution must be taken if you handle the species as they are very fragile. A fall from a few feet could cause fatal damage, so always try to handle while sitting on the floor, if absolutely necessary. The male of the species has a life span of 4 years whereas females live for 12 years.
