Mexican Red Knee Tarantula

The Mexican Red Knee Tarantula (Brachypelma hamorii) is a primarily black or brown coloured Tarantula with recognisably lighter legs and red colouration on the knees. In their natural habitat, a terrestrial speices, they love to spend lots of time burrowed down in substrate. Known to occupy many habitats, from dry, tropical forests to desert, scrubland and mountain regions where the species will live in the crevasses of rocks and trees. Male and female Red Knee Tarantulas look very similar, although the males tend to have a smaller body but longer legs than the females. The male of the species has a life span of 5 years whereas females live for 30 years.
