The animal that's right for you

Whether you are a beginner or already own a reptile, here is a simple guide to helping you find the right reptile for you.

Forest Scorpion

Ease of care: Beginner

Forest Scorpions are part of the Heterometrus genus, consisting of more than thirty species. Although most scorpions are black in colouration with some shades of brown, one species, the Asian Blue Forest Scorpion, has a blue iridescent shine. In their natural habitat, scorpions are a terrestrial species, meaning they live on the forest floor amongst debris and leaf litter. Make sure to provide good moist substrate and leaf-litter in their enclosure. Despite being nocturnal, the forest scorpion’s vision is relatively poor, relying on their sensory structures called ‘Pectines’ located behind their legs. These are very sensitive hair-comb like structures used to detect their varied terrain as well as potential prey, and even mates. The Heterometrus genus also come equipped with two large pedipalps (pincers) at the front, and a large tail with the well-recognised stinger at the end.
