Desert Sand

HabiStat Desert Sand is specifically designed to replicate the hot, arid environments of natural desert regions like those found in parts of North Africa and the Middle East, where many reptiles have evolved to thrive on the dry, sandy terrain.  

Made from fine, natural sand, it closely mirrors the ground composition these species would encounter in the wild, allowing reptiles like bearded dragons and sand-dwelling geckos to express natural behaviours.  

Available in red or yellow, the loose, workable texture encourages natural activities, such as digging, foraging and burrowing. In the wild, reptiles may dig shallow scrapes to cool down or form burrows to rest safely. This behaviour can be easily replicated using HabiStat Desert Sand.  

As an excellent heat conductor, the sand also aids in maintaining proper thermal gradients, allowing reptiles to bask and thermoregulate effectively. Additionally, as part of the HabiStat substrate range, it comes pre-hydrated, which temporarily increase humidity levels when first added, helping to stabilise the enclosure environment. 

HabiStat’s Desert Sand is ready to use straight from the bag or is great to mix with an additional substrate, which is ideal for creating a naturalistic, enriching habitat with more of a sandy theme.

Directions for Use: 

Spread substrate evenly across vivarium base ensuring a depth of 2″ (5cm). Do not overfill if using underfloor heating. Spot clean daily, change or refresh every 12 months.
